2014 MultiHobieEuropeans – Hobie 16 Gold, Wild Cat, Tiger and FX-One final day

The wind turned out to be a lot lighter on the final day than what we had been used to the previous days. The sea breeze settled in around 1400H. By competent race management the Race Committee succeeded to squeeze a second race in for the Hobie 16s with only a very few minutes to the time limit at 1530H. The Wild Cat, Tiger and FX-Ones got one race.

France ruled the waves at this event taking the majority of podium positions:

1. CEDRIC BADER/LAURENT BADER (FRA)

2. ORION MARTIN/CHARLOTTE HILLIARD (FRA)

3. JEROME LE GAL/MARCO IAZZETTA (FRA/ITA)

2. GERARD LOOS/ANDY DINSDALE (NED/FRA)

This will for sure be an event to remember for not only the great wind and outstanding race management! J

2014 MultiHobieEuropeans – Hobie 16 Gold, Wild Cat and FX-One day 3

Another rather animated day on the water. The forecasted winds the last couple of days have proved to be slightly more moderate than what actually became the case….……..at least on the waters here outside Castelldefels.

Today it meant the wind again increased to about 30 kts. Two races were accomplished before the sailors were sent back to the beach and pasta in the Hobie Village.

The Bader brothers (FRA) consolidated their lead in the HC16 class with a first and a second. The positions 2-5 are a lot more open before entering the final day.

In the Wild Cat class, Julien Feraud/Charles Gate (FRA) consolidated their lead as well, with Gerard Loos/Andy Dinsdale (NED/FRA) in a strong second.

Tomas Testor (ESP) had a great day on in the FX-One class with two firsts. He is now leading the fleet with the same score as previous frontrunner Alfredo Bernad (ESP) setting up the stage for an exciting finish tomorrow.

Acopo Salvemini/Michelle Mediel Bojorg (ESP) took over the lead in the FX-One Double.

We have said it before……… the weather forecast for tomorrow, last day of the championship, looks bit more peaceful. We might be able to tell for sure after the racing! ;-)

2014 MultiHobieEuropeans – Hobie 16 Gold, Wild Cat and FX-One day 2

Strong winds, steep sea and a real hefty day at the office describes very well the setting for today’s action on the water. About the time where the sailors headed out for the first race, there was a good 15-17 knots breeze with the waves already being quite bumpy. Following the first start, the wind gradually increased up to the 25 kts. ++ with the waves getting more and more intense. After two races, the race committee sent the sailors back to be the beach. Pasta was served in the Hobie Village with the ordeals of the day being subject for quite animated sharing and discussions! ;-)

The leaders (pending protests) after day 2 are:

Hobie 16

CEDRIC BADER/LAURENT BADER (FRA) consolidated their lead with another two bullets.

Hobie Wild Cat

JULIEN FERAUD/CHARLES GATE (FRA). About 2/3 of the fleet stayed on shore.

Hobie FX-One

ALFREDO BERNAD (ESP). The class stayed on shore.

Hobie FX-One Double

CARLES VICENS/IGNASI SITGES (ESP). The class stayed on shore.

The weather forecast for tomorrow indicates a bit more peaceful conditions.

2014 MultiHobieEuropeans – Hobie 16 Gold, Wild Cat and FX-One day 1

When the sailors went on the water around noon it was in about 15 knots of wind. Wind increased in periods up 20 knots gusting up to about 25. This in combination with a pretty rough sea. Perfect and genuine Hobie 16 conditions as more exited and tired sailors claimed after the four races of the day. Nevertheless, the tough conditions took their toll in the Hobie 16 class with capsizes and retreats to the beach.

The high aspect square top sails of the Wild Cats and FX-Ones in combination with the prevailing conditions left the sailors of these classes even less margin for mistakes.  To put it differently the distance between success and swimming proved subtle! ;-)

The leaders after day 1 and four races are:

Hobie 16

CEDRIC BADER/LAURENT BADER (FRA)

Hobie Wild Cat

JULIEN FERAUD/CHARLES GATE (FRA)

Hobie FX-One

ALFREDO BERNAD (ESP)

Hobie FX-One Double

CARLES VICENS/IGNASI SITGES (ESP)
