CHALLENGING and testing conditions in the ‘Princess Yachts Spring Regatta’ last weekend. Difficult to keep the boat moving in the sometimes glassy sea conditions. It can be painful, but there is no doubt its very good for overall sailing skills with the concentration, focus and teamwork required. Great conditions when the wind did pick up. Congrats to the Hobie winners in the Sports Cat section, also a big thank you to Bill and his team, for putting on such an excellent event on and off the water.
CADET DRAGOONS those Cadets wishing to participate this Sunday, please supply names to Nuala at the YC. Please be at the beach for 8:45am for preparation, rigging and briefing.
WEDNESDAY EVENING TRAINING for H16 ‘B’ Fleet and Junior Dragoons commences on Wed 20th May. Juniors at 5:00pm and H16’s 6:00pm. The training runs to mid July (5 sessions) every other week on the evening tide. Can also be used for starts training etc for the World & European teams going to Lake Garda. *HOBIE HOTLINE MAGAZINE published in the USA during the 90’s, an excellent acclaimed publication full of Cat sailing tips, stories and awesome photos. Hobie Cat California have archived them. Well worth reading go to www.hobiecat.com front page top, ping the third o (out of 6) browse archive. Most of the Jersey H/Fleet subscribed to the magazine in those days, it was exciting when it came through the letter box once a month and was immediately read and poured over to take in all the tips, sailing and racing knowledge. There must still be a few collectors item mags around! Unfortunately it’s no longer published.
H16 TOP TIP no 1: Tune and firm rudders up for high performance H16 sailing. Turn rudder pins top to bottom if worn or replace, change cams and use top hats to firm r/pins in lower rudder castings. 3mm toe in is good. Check spring tension and plunger condition in casting. Well set and tuned rudders make an amazing difference in boat performance. If advice is required, talk to one of the Fleets top helms.
